Dhaka, Dec 02 (V7N) — The newly constituted Election Commission (EC) of Bangladesh will hold its first meeting today at 11:00 AM in the CEC meeting room at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin will preside over the meeting, which will officially mark the beginning of the Commission’s activities.

The meeting will include the participation of the four Election Commissioners, the EC Secretary, the Additional Secretary, and other senior officials of the Election Commission.

Key Agendas of the Meeting:

According to EC sources, the following topics will be discussed:

Formation of four committees under Rule 3(2) of the Election Commission (Procedure) Rules 2010. Each committee will be led by one of the Election Commissioners to streamline the EC's functions.

Discussions on updating the voter list, a crucial step in preparing for the upcoming elections.

Reviewing objections related to the delimitation of the National Assembly constituencies.

Miscellaneous administrative issues to streamline operations.

Preparations for Upcoming National Elections

The newly appointed EC will oversee the 13th National Parliament elections. Today's meeting is expected to set the groundwork for conducting these elections, signaling the start of extensive preparations.

The current Election Commission was constituted on November 21, 2024, following a notification issued by the Cabinet Division under the directive of President Md. Sahabuddin, as per Article 118(1) of the Constitution. This Commission will be responsible for ensuring fair and transparent elections during its tenure.

With high expectations placed on the new Commission, stakeholders are closely watching as they commence their work to uphold democratic processes in Bangladesh.
