Dhaka, Dec 09, (V7N) - Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has reiterated that the primary objective of the student movement in July and August was reform. He assured that his government is committed to implementing significant reforms before organizing a free and fair election.

During a meeting on Sunday at the state guesthouse Jamuna in Dhaka with Lord Mark Malloch-Brown, former head of UNDP and advisor to the IMF and World Bank, Professor Yunus reaffirmed his commitment to the reform agenda. The hour-long meeting covered a wide range of topics, including the July-August mass uprising, developmental issues, the interim government’s reform initiatives, misinformation campaigns against the student movement, healthcare, social business, and microfinance.

Professor Yunus emphasized that the interim government would act as a facilitator of the reform process. He highlighted that 15 reform commissions have been established so far to restructure key institutions that were damaged by Sheikh Hasina’s authoritarian rule. Lord Malloch-Brown thanked Professor Yunus for taking on the leadership of the interim government at such a critical juncture in Bangladesh's history. He expressed his willingness to extend support for the welfare of the Bangladeshi people.
