Dhaka, Dec 11 (V7N)- Labor and Shipping Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. Sakhawat Hossain accused the ousted Awami League and its allies of trying to tarnish the government’s image. Speaking at a civic festival titled “On the Path of Democracy, Let's Walk Together” organized by the Citizens for Good Governance and The Hunger Project on Wednesday, Dr. Sakhawat made critical remarks about the political landscape and election practices in Bangladesh.
Highlighting Electoral Mismanagement
Dr. Sakhawat pointed out that no foreign education is needed to understand how to damage an election system, suggesting a study of the last three elections in Bangladesh would suffice. He implied that these elections had significant irregularities that served as lessons for improving future polls.
Addressing Upcoming Elections
The advisor expressed confidence that the upcoming elections would be fundamentally different from past ones, urging vigilance among voters to ensure the integrity of the voting process. He emphasized the importance of preventing vote hijacking and encouraged active citizen participation to safeguard democracy.
Lessons from Political History
Dr. Sakhawat also referenced the current plight of the Awami League, suggesting that political actors participating in future elections should learn from the party’s situation. His remarks underscored the advisor's belief in accountability and adaptation as essential for a robust democratic process.
The event, attended by civic leaders and stakeholders, fostered discussions about the future of democracy and the role of civil society in shaping a transparent electoral process.
