Narsingdi, Dec 14 (V7N)- Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain assured that the government will organize fair and impartial elections after implementing essential reforms. Speaking at a meeting with upazila-level officials and civil society members at the Belab Upazila Conference Room in Narsingdi on Saturday afternoon, Hossain emphasized the transitional government’s commitment to restoring democracy.
“We were entrusted with this responsibility during a special situation brought about by the student-public movement. After implementing key reforms, we will hand over power to elected politicians and step down,” he said.
Lessons from the Movement
The meeting began with a minute’s silence to honor those who lost their lives during the student-public movement. Hossain highlighted the need for accountability to prevent similar tragedies in the future. “Politicians must take responsibility to ensure that students do not have to take to the streets again. Children’s lives should not be lost in such struggles,” he added.
Relations with India and Global Outreach
Addressing Bangladesh’s foreign relations, Hossain underlined the government's focus on maintaining balanced diplomacy. “We want good relations with all countries, including India, based on mutual respect and equality.
