Dhaka, Dec 17 (V7N) — Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced that a committee will be formed within 5 working days to reinvestigate the BDR killings. The announcement was made during a briefing at the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat on Tuesday morning.

The advisor emphasized that the interim government is committed to ensuring justice for the tragic incident and eliminating any confusion surrounding it. “The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to form a reinvestigation committee, which will include 5 to 9 members. The committee will consist of members from the armed forces, retired judges, and police officials,” he stated.

Following the fall of the Awami League government, there has been widespread demand for a fresh investigation into the BDR massacre. The High Court previously issued a directive through a writ petition, calling for the formation of an investigation commission.

The Home Ministry sought legal opinions from the Law Ministry on the matter, leading to increased speculation about the formation of the committee. In response to demands and growing public pressure, including a blockade announced by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, the government took the decision to expedite the process.

The committee’s findings are expected to provide clarity and accountability regarding one of the most harrowing events in Bangladesh's history.
