Dhaka, Dec 18 (V7N)— Environment, Forest, and Climate Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hassan has stressed the need for internal resilience against climate change, alongside securing international funding. She made these remarks during a seminar titled "Global Climate Negotiations: Challenges and Priorities for Bangladesh," held on Wednesday afternoon.

"Bringing money from abroad is not enough; we must also take steps within our country to build resistance against climate change," the advisor stated.

Highlighting air pollution concerns, Rizwana Hassan noted that 30% of Bangladesh's air pollution originates from neighbouring countries. However, she underscored that significant progress could be made by addressing domestic sources of pollution.

To combat this issue, she announced the formation of a task force dedicated to reducing air pollution. Starting December 21, 14 teams will conduct operations in Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur.

The advisor also shared progress on the restoration of Dhaka’s canals, confirming that the action plan has been finalised, and implementation will begin soon.

She concluded by urging collective efforts to tackle environmental challenges, ensuring a sustainable future for Bangladesh amidst the growing threat of climate change.
