Dhaka, Dec 18 (V7N) — Additional IGP Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, the head of the Special Branch (SB) of Bangladesh Police, has been transferred to the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU). The transfer comes just one month and 23 days after he assumed the role of SB chief. Khandaker Rafiqul Islam will now serve as the chief of the ATU.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the transfer notification through the Police-1 Branch of its Public Security Division on Wednesday.

Additionally, the notification announced the transfer of two Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and one Superintendent of Police (SP):

Md. Golam Rasul, DIG of Dhaka Police Staff College, has been reassigned to the Special Branch (SB).

Md. Israel Hawlader, Additional Police Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), has been transferred to the Industrial Area Police.

Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, SP of Tourist Police, has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Khandaker Rafiqul Islam assumed leadership of the SB after the retirement of Md. Shah Alam in October. Md. Shah Alam, who had taken charge on August 13 following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, retired after reaching the age of 59, as mandated by the Government Service Act.

Khandaker Rafiqul Islam’s tenure at SB now ends as he moves to oversee the ATU, a key unit responsible for combating terrorism and extremism in the country.

This reshuffle underscores ongoing adjustments within the police force as the government continues to reorganize key positions across law enforcement agencies.
