Dhaka, Dec 21 (V7N) — The Chief Adviser's press wing has dismissed reports from Indian media claiming 2,200 incidents of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh in 2024, labelling them as "misleading and exaggerated."

The reports, published by outlets such as India Today and Anandabazar, cited the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, stating there were 47 incidents in 2022, 302 in 2023, and a dramatic rise to 2,200 in 2024. However, the Chief Adviser's Press Wing, through a statement on its verified Facebook page CA Press Wing Facts, countered these claims.

Citing data from human rights organization Ain O Salish Kendra, the statement highlighted that between January and November 2024, there were 138 violent incidents against religious minorities, including 368 attacks on homes and injuries to 82 individuals.

The statement further noted that many of these incidents occurred during the political void from August 5 to August 8, when there was no government in place. It also stressed that the interim government has been actively investigating all reported incidents and is committed to bringing perpetrators to justice.

Police data revealed that at least 97 cases have been filed since August, and 75 individuals have been arrested for attacks on religious minorities. The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice and urged the public and international community to refrain from spreading misleading information.
