Dhaka, Dec 22 (V7N)— Bangladesh has expressed deep concern over the infiltration of 60,000 Rohingya into its territory over the past two months, terming it a "bad omen for the future." Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain made the statement while addressing reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

"Although no formal policy decision has been made, the influx poses serious challenges for Bangladesh and the region," said the advisor. He added that the ongoing crisis underscores the need for urgent regional and international intervention.

The Rohingya issue was a key topic at an informal consultation of foreign ministers from five countries bordering Myanmar, held in Bangkok on December 18. Towhid Hossain highlighted that during the meeting, it was agreed that lasting peace in Myanmar would be impossible without resolving the Rohingya crisis.

"The situation will only worsen in the coming decade, impacting all regional countries," he warned.

The informal meeting also covered issues such as Myanmar's border security, cross-border crime, and the nation's future political landscape. Representatives from Bangladesh, Myanmar, India, Laos, China, and Thailand participated in the discussions.

The advisor stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to address the Rohingya crisis, emphasizing that failure to do so would result in dire consequences for the entire region.
