Dhaka, Dec 28 (V7N) — The dengue outbreak continues to affect Bangladesh as one more person succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). A total of 104 new cases have been reported during this period.

The DGHS report, released on Saturday evening, highlights that 42 new patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka Metropolitan City. Additionally, 34 cases were recorded in Dhaka Division (outside the metropolitan area), 13 in Barisal Division, 7 in Chittagong Division, 3 each in Rajshahi and Mymensingh Divisions, and 2 in Khulna Division.

Total hospitalizations: 1,868

Total deaths: 570

Gender distribution: The death toll remains higher among women.

Last year, Bangladesh witnessed a severe dengue outbreak, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 infections recorded, marking one of the worst dengue crises in the country’s history.

Health authorities are urging the public to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites, particularly from Aedes mosquitoes, which are responsible for spreading the disease. Regular monitoring and elimination of mosquito breeding sites remain critical to controlling the outbreak.
