Dhaka, Jan 06 (V7N)— Home Affairs Advisor (retired) Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced significant reforms to the operations of the Detective Branch (DB) of the police during a visit to the DB office on Monday.

Speaking to reporters, the advisor declared, “There will no longer be any rice hotels or aynaghaor at the DB office. Additionally, DB personnel will no longer conduct raids in civilian clothes, and no one can be detained under false DB identities.” These measures aim to increase accountability and improve public trust in the DB's activities.

On border security, the advisor highlighted the government's heightened vigilance on the Myanmar border. "Maximum vigilance is being maintained to prevent any untoward incident," he stated. He added that Bangladesh remains in communication with both the Arakan Army and the Myanmar military, ensuring that the border remains under Bangladesh's control.

Addressing the rise in criminal activities, the advisor said, “Law enforcement agencies are actively making arrests to tackle the growing number of robbers in the country.”

When asked about the recent protests by police personnel, he reiterated that the protesting officers had violated disciplinary norms. "If evidence of breaking discipline is found, the dismissed members will not be reinstated," he said firmly.

During his visit, the Home Affairs Advisor inspected various facilities and operations at the DB office to ensure adherence to the newly implemented measures.
