Dhaka, Jan 08 (V7N)— Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin announced that the dollar crisis in banks has been resolved, citing sufficient remittances and strong export earnings this year. He shared this update during the inauguration of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh's (TCB) subsidized product sales program through Smart Family Cards at Tejgaon in the capital on Wednesday.

Bashiruddin emphasised the government's commitment to transparency in TCB's operations. "It was essential to acknowledge the irregularities and corruption in TCB's goods distribution. We have done that and are working to eliminate these issues through digitalization," he said.

He highlighted the distribution of 6.3 million smart cards to ensure fair access to subsidized goods and announced plans to enhance transparency in procurement processes.

Addressing concerns about the potato market, Bashiruddin revealed plans to stockpile potatoes for the coming year to prevent shortages and stabilize prices. He added that imports might be considered if necessary.

Regarding rice, the advisor dismissed concerns about shortages. "There is no shortage in our stocks or local production. We are in the middle of the Aman season, and the current market prices seem illogical. We are investigating and expect prices to stabilize soon," he said.

The advisor’s statements underscore the government's efforts to ensure market stability and equitable access to essential commodities.
