Dhaka, Aug 14 (V7N) – Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has expressed interest in contesting the upcoming national parliamentary elections, though he remains undecided about which party he will represent. While there has been speculation about him joining the Nationalist Citizens’ Party (NCP), Bhuiyan has yet to confirm any affiliation.

Speaking to BBC Bangla on Wednesday, Bhuiyan said that if he ultimately decides to run in the election, he will resign from his current advisory role. “I am interested in contesting the election, but I haven't made a final decision on how or under what platform I’ll proceed. If I run, I will step down from my position,” he stated.

He also mentioned that he has not yet decided whether his resignation will come before or after the announcement of the election schedule. When asked about potentially joining NCP or running as an independent candidate, Bhuiyan clarified that no final decision has been made.

Bhuiyan stressed the importance of neutrality in the election process, stating, “Anyone who plans to contest the election or has political ambitions should not remain in a caretaker government. It’s not just about me or Mahfuz Alam—there are others with political roles or affiliations as well. I believe none of them should be part of the election-time administration.”

His comments come amid ongoing national discussions about the roles of political figures within the advisory structure of the government ahead of the polls.
