Dhaka, Jan 21 (V7N) — Chaos unfolded during a human chain protest organized by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in front of its central office at Bangla Motorway in the capital on Tuesday afternoon. Six people were injured in the clash and are currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The injured individuals were identified as Asif (21), Md. Jannatul Meem (22), Md. Abrar (23), Al-Amin (23), Md. Imran (23), and Masud (22).
According to agitating students, the protest was organized in response to a prior altercation in Demra on Monday. Tensions escalated when the protesters were blocked from proceeding near the central office, leading to a scuffle between the two sides.
Protesters allege that Rifat Rashid, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, was present during the incident. Later, another coordinator, Hasnat Abdullah, arrived at the scene to hear the grievances of the students but declined to address the media.
The situation remains tense as the organization grapples with internal disputes amidst its ongoing campaign against discrimination. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
