Dhaka, Jan 26 (V7N)— Advocate Tajul Islam, Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), revealed that evidence has been uncovered indicating that members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted helicopter shootings during the July-August uprising. He made the statement while speaking to reporters outside the tribunal on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Chief Prosecutor, former RAB Director General Harun Or Rashid orchestrated a plan involving indiscriminate firing and acts of genocide from helicopters to suppress the anti-discrimination movement.

"The court has issued an arrest warrant against former RAB Director General Harun Or Rashid in connection with a murder case," said Advocate Tajul Islam. He further disclosed that arrest warrants have been issued against 96 individuals, including former ministers, Awami League leaders, and police officers, for their alleged roles in crimes committed during the period.

In a related development, two former police officers, Sub-Inspector Abdul Malek and Constable Mukul Chokder, were presented before the tribunal on charges related to the burning of six bodies in Ashulia during the anti-discrimination movement on August 5.

Earlier, arrest warrants had been issued against former Member of Parliament Saiful Islam and four other police officers for their alleged involvement in the same incident.

The tribunal continues to investigate the atrocities committed during the uprising, with a focus on ensuring accountability for those implicated in the acts of violence and repression.
