A writ petition has been filed seeking the closure of restaurants operating in residential buildings, alongside urging for the apprehension of those accountable for the recent fire incident at Green Cozy Cottage. Advocate Md Eunus Ali Akond lodged the writ with the High Court on Sunday.

The petition names Secretaries to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Ministry of Home Affairs, cabinet secretary, inspector general of police, chairman of Rjauk, mayors of Dhaka South and North City Corporations, among others, as respondents. The case will be presented before the bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque for further deliberation, stated lawyer Eunus Ali Akond.

The tragic fire at Green Cozy Cottage claimed the lives of at least 46 individuals and left over 20 others with severe injuries. Firefighters managed to rescue 70 people, including 42 found unconscious, from various floors of the seven-storey building.

In response to the incident, police filed a case on Friday night and detained the manager of Green Cozy Cottage on Saturday. Hamimul Haque Bipul, the manager, was apprehended from Dhanmondi. Earlier, three others associated with Chumuk and Kacchi Bhai restaurants were also detained in connection with the fire.
