Health Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen has appealed to deputy commissioners (DCs) for their assistance in taking action against illegal clinics and hospitals across Bangladesh.
Speaking to reporters after attending the DC conference on Sunday, Dr. Sen highlighted the importance of cooperation from DCs in addressing the issue of illegal healthcare facilities. He emphasized the need for joint efforts between the health ministry and local administration to tackle this issue effectively.
During the conference, DCs shared insights into the state of the health sector in their respective areas, including challenges such as labor shortages, insufficient hospital beds, and funding issues. Dr. Sen assured that the ministry would gradually address these concerns raised by the DCs.
Regarding recent initiatives against illegal clinics and diagnostic centers, Dr. Sen informed that the health ministry had closed down 22 such facilities across the country, with ongoing efforts to identify and shut down more illegal establishments. He emphasized the role of DCs in supporting these drives, citing their judicial power, which the health ministry lacks.
The four-day DC Conference 2024 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier in the day at the Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister's Office, with ministry-wise sessions commencing subsequently at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
