Dhaka, Feb 20 (V7N) –The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is on high alert to prevent members of any banned groups and organizations from entering the Central Shaheed Minar premises and causing disorder during the observance of Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day on Friday.
Additionally, security will be ensured by setting up checkpoints at intersections leading to the Shaheed Minar and conducting necessary searches on suspicious individuals, ASP Muttazul Islam, assistant director of RAB Legal and Media Wing, said on Thursday.
He said the chief adviser will place a wreath at the Shaheed Minar in honour of Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day.
People from the capital and various regions across the country will also pay tribute to the language martyrs at the Shaheed Minar.
To commemorate February 21, floral tributes, discussion meetings, and cultural programs have been arranged at the Central Shaheed Minar and other Shaheed Minars nationwide.
ASP Muttazul Islam added that after assessing all potential risks, RAB has strengthened security measures in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, intelligence agencies, and local administrations.
RAB's security measures for implementing the law and order directives include the deployment of a sufficient number of RAB personnel across the country from Thursday to prevent any disturbances or unexpected incidents.
All RAB battalions are maintaining security operations in their respective jurisdictions. Special security measures, including enhanced intelligence surveillance by plainclothes RAB personnel, have been in place since Wednesday.
For the security of the Central Shaheed Minar, RAB-3 is managing observation posts and checkpoints in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.
The RAB bomb disposal unit and dog squad will conduct necessary sweeps on the Shaheed Minar premises.
Additionally, RAB's special forces will remain on standby to handle any emergency situations.
Checkpoints will be set up at key roads leading to the Shaheed Minar, where security personnel will conduct thorough searches of suspicious individuals to ensure proper security.
RAB will also keep a close watch to prevent harassment, including incidents of eve-teasing, ensuring the safety of women and children attending the event.
To counter the spread of rumours, provocative content, or misinformation in the virtual space, RAB’s cyber monitoring team will maintain round-the-clock surveillance online.
Security measures have been strengthened at the Central Shaheed Minar and all other Shaheed Minars in metropolitan areas, divisional cities, districts, and upazilas.
The Central Shaheed Minar and its adjacent areas have been brought under video surveillance through CCTV and IP cameras, with a dedicated monitoring centre in place.
RAB battalions will coordinate with local representatives and other law enforcement agencies through their respective control rooms to ensure security.
The RAB headquarters control room will oversee and coordinate security measures across the country, including Dhaka.
To maintain overall law and order stability across the country during Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day, RAB said it seeks the cooperation of all.
In the event of any disturbances, the public has been urged to inform the local RAB patrol in charge or the designated RAB battalion commander.
