Law enforcement authorities in Dhaka have taken approximately 35 individuals into custody, including restaurant owners and managers, for failing to comply with fire safety regulations at their establishments.

Confirmation of the arrests was provided by various sources within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Sunday night.

Teams of police officers are conducting raids across several areas of the capital, including Uttara, Bashundhara Residential Area, Dhanmondi, Khilgaon, and Old Dhaka.

Mohammad Tauhidul Islam, additional deputy commissioner of the Uttara Division of DMP, stated that the raids are targeting restaurants operating without adherence to proper rules and regulations. He emphasized that actions will be taken in accordance with the country's existing laws.

Refatul Islam, assistant commissioner of the New Market Zone, reported ongoing raids in several restaurants in Dhanmondi. He indicated that a press conference would be held upon the completion of the operations.

According to police sources, between 30 to 35 individuals have already been apprehended, with the majority being restaurant managers. These individuals have been instructed to provide the necessary documents required to operate their businesses.

The crackdown follows three days after the tragic incident on Bailey Road, where 46 people lost their lives in a building housing multiple restaurants, despite lacking proper approval.
