Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) has directed the closure of 12 restaurants situated in the Gawsia Twin Peak building on Sat Masjid Road in Dhanmondi. The decision was announced by Rajuk Executive Magistrate Tazina Sarwar following an inspection of the building on Monday afternoon.

Earlier, the executive magistrate had ordered the demolition of two structures located on the roof of the same building.

After concluding the operation, Tajina Sarwar briefed reporters, stating, "This building was approved under the F-1 category, which permits its use as an office space. However, during our inspection, we observed that only a portion of two floors was designated for office purposes. Contrary to regulations, the remaining sections have been rented out to 12 to 15 restaurants. Rajuk's mobile court conducted the raid due to these violations."

Furthermore, Sarwar emphasized, "Our action is limited to sealing off the restaurants."

The crackdown follows a tragic incident on the night of February 29, where 46 individuals, including women and children, lost their lives in a fire at Green Cozy Cottage on Bailey Road. To date, the bodies of 44 victims have been identified and handed over, while the remaining two are being held at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.

In response to the incident, police initiated raids on restaurants across various areas of Dhaka on Sunday night, with Rajuk conducting its raid on Monday.
