Dhaka, Feb 27 (V7N) – Labor and Employment Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M Sakhwat Hossain announced that Tk 525 crore has been collected to pay the wages of workers from 14 factories that were closed at the Beximco Industrial Park. He shared this information with reporters at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon.

Dr. Hossain detailed that Tk 325 crore 46 lakh will be allocated from the expenditure section of the Finance Department, while Tk 200 crore will be provided as a loan from the Labor Ministry. This funding will be used to settle the dues of 31,669 workers and 1,565 officials, with payments set to begin on March 9. Additionally, arrangements are being made for employment opportunities for the Beximco employees who lost their jobs due to the factory closures.

He further criticized Beximco for alleged financial misconduct, stating that the group has taken substantial loans from 13 banks, primarily from Janata Bank, using political influence. Dr. Hossain emphasized that those involved in loan manipulation will face legal consequences, including the cancellation of passports for individuals attempting to flee the country.

This announcement comes as part of ongoing efforts to address the challenges faced by workers impacted by the closure of Beximco factories and to ensure their financial and employment stability.
