A severe fire that erupted at S Alam's sugar mill in Moijjartek, Chittagong, at around 4 p.m. on Monday has not been brought under control even after four hours.
Despite the efforts of ten firefighting units from five fire stations, the blaze continues to rage. As of the latest report at 8 p.m., firefighters have been unable to contain the fire.
Initially, seven firefighting units rushed to the scene upon receiving the alert, with three additional units joining later to assist in the firefighting operation.
According to fire service personnel and sugar mill officials, the mill, located in the Moijjartek area along the banks of the Karnaphuli river, saw the fire originate in one of its six warehouses. The warehouse stored imported raw and refined sugar, which quickly fueled the flames. Although the fire engulfed the warehouse, it has not spread to the adjacent five warehouses.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time, and fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties.
This incident comes shortly after a fire broke out at S Alam's under-construction cold storage facility in Chittagong's Bakolia area on Friday.
