Dhaka, Mar 14 (V7N) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres held a crucial meeting with Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the Chief Advisor’s Office on Friday morning (March 14). The meeting, which began around 10 AM, focused on pressing national and international issues, including humanitarian and development efforts in Bangladesh.

Following the meeting, Guterres and Yunus will travel together to Cox’s Bazar on the same flight.

Upon arrival in Cox’s Bazar, Chief Advisor Yunus will visit the under-construction Cox’s Bazar International Airport and the Khurushkul Climate Refugee Center. Meanwhile, Farooq-e-Azam, the Advisor in Charge of the Ministry of Disaster Management, will officially welcome the UN Secretary-General.

Guterres will then proceed directly to Ukhiya, where he is scheduled to visit:

  • The Rohingya Learning Center,
  • The Rohingya Cultural Center, and
  • The Jute Products Production Center.

Later in the evening, the UN Secretary-General will join Iftar with millions of Rohingya refugees, highlighting the UN's continued commitment to the refugee crisis.

After completing their engagements, both Guterres and Yunus will return to Dhaka at night.

Before heading to Cox’s Bazar, Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain met with Antonio Guterres at 9 AM at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dhaka.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in Dhaka on Thursday (March 13) for a four-day official visit at the invitation of the interim government’s Chief Advisor, Dr. Muhammad Yunus. This is his second visit to Bangladesh in nearly seven years, with his last visit taking place in July 2018.

During his stay, Guterres is expected to engage in discussions on peace, development, climate resilience, and the Rohingya crisis, reinforcing the UN’s support for Bangladesh’s humanitarian and political landscape.
