Cox’s Bazar, Mar 14 (V7N) – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is currently visiting the Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya, accompanied by Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
The two leaders arrived in Cox’s Bazar at 1 PM on Friday (March 14) via Bangladesh Biman Airlines from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka. The Chief Advisor’s Press Wing confirmed the matter to the media.
At Cox’s Bazar Airport, the delegation was received by:
- Farooq-e-Azam, Advisor in Charge of the Ministry of Disaster Management
- Mohammad Salahuddin, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner
- Mohammad Saifuddin, Superintendent of Police
Following their arrival, UN Secretary-General Guterres proceeded directly to Ukhiya, where he is visiting:
- Rohingya Learning Center
- Rohingya Cultural Center
- Jute Products Production Center
Meanwhile, Dr. Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to inspect two significant development projects:
- Cox’s Bazar International Airport (under construction)
- Khurushkul Climate Refugee Center
After the visit, Dr. Yunus and Secretary-General Guterres will join Iftar with around 100,000 Rohingya refugees in Ukhiya.
Earlier in the day, Guterres held a meeting with Dr. Yunus at the Chief Advisor’s office in Dhaka. He is also expected to meet with Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain to discuss ongoing UN-Bangladesh relations.
After the Iftar program, Dr. Yunus and Antonio Guterres will return to Dhaka together later in the evening.
