Dhaka, Mar 18 (V7N) – The term of the Commission of Inquiry investigating enforced disappearances allegedly carried out by law enforcement agencies during the Awami League regime has been extended until June 30, according to a Cabinet Division notification issued on Monday.
The notification states that under the powers granted by Section 3 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1956, the government has extended the term of the Commission of Inquiry on Disappearances, initially formed by a notification issued on September 15, 2024 (S.R.O. No.-312-Act/2024). The extension will be effective retroactively from March 15.
The interim government originally established the Disappearances Commission on August 27 last year, appointing retired High Court Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury as its head. The commission was tasked with identifying individuals who were forcibly disappeared and investigating the circumstances surrounding these cases.
