Dhaka, Mar 24 (V7N) – Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nasimul Gani, has dismissed rumors regarding the possible declaration of a state of emergency in Bangladesh. He made this statement on Monday after the signing of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) between Bangladesh and Australia to repatriate Bangladeshis who illegally entered Australia by sea.

On Sunday night, speculation spread on social media suggesting that the government might impose a state of emergency at any moment. However, when asked about this by journalists, Nasimul Gani firmly denied the claims.

"The issue of declaring a state of emergency is gossip. I will not comment on it," he said.

The Senior Secretary assured that the government has not taken the law and order situation lightly. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies are on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents during the Eid holidays.

"The same security measures that are usually taken will be implemented this time as well. The law and order situation in the country is normal, and we are working to keep it that way," he added.

The briefing was attended by Home Affairs Advisor (Retd.) Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle.
