Dhaka, Mar 27 (V7N) – The Director General of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, Alim Akhtar Khan, has claimed that consumers have passed the month of Ramadan with ease this year, thanks to government initiatives, market monitoring, and consumer cooperation.

Speaking at a press conference held at the department’s headquarters on Thursday (March 27), Alim Akhtar Khan highlighted the various steps taken to ensure price stability and prevent market manipulation.

According to the Director General, the department conducted 1,661 market raids throughout Ramadan, resulting in fines worth approximately 250 million taka. A total of 3,250 businesses were penalized for violating consumer rights and market regulations.

Despite these actions, he expressed hope for a future where such penalties would not be necessary, stating,

"We want a day when no institution has to be fined because all businesses operate ethically."

Alim Akhtar Khan emphasized that no significant price hikes were observed this Ramadan, which he credited to tireless market monitoring efforts. He assured that even after Ramadan, the Consumer Affairs Department will continue regular market surveillance to maintain stability during the Eid-ul-Fitr shopping season.
