In anticipation of the upcoming Ramadan, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has commenced the sale of five essential items at subsidized rates starting from Thursday. This initiative aims to benefit approximately 10 million family cardholders across the nation.
Each consumer holding a family card is entitled to purchase a maximum quantity of 2 liters of soybean oil, 2 kilograms of lentils, 1 kilogram of sugar, 5 kilograms of rice, and 1 kilogram of dates at subsidized prices.
Under this scheme, soybean oil will be available at Tk 100 per liter, sugar at Tk 100 per kilogram, lentils at Tk 60 per kilogram, dates at Tk 150 per kilogram, and rice at Tk 30 per kilogram.
Notably, the price of sugar has been raised by Tk 30, from Tk 60 to Tk 100 per kilogram, to align with market rates. TCB spokesperson Humayun Kabir explained that this adjustment was necessary due to the significant increase in sugar prices in the market since the last supply three months ago.
The distribution of subsidized goods will be carried out according to a predetermined schedule by distributors in collaboration with city corporations, district, and upazila administrations. Family cardholders can purchase these items from designated shops or locations within their respective areas during the campaign period.
State Minister for Commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu is scheduled to inaugurate the Ramadan sales program on Thursday at Ward No. 24 of the Dhaka North City Corporation.
