Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud emphasized on Thursday that individuals and entities, including the BNP, who question the significance of March 7, cast doubt on their commitment to Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty.

Speaking to journalists after his party paid floral tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32, Hasan, an Awami League joint general secretary, expressed concern over those who do not acknowledge March 7. He stated that the history of Bangladesh and its independence is incomplete without recognizing the importance of this day.

The foreign minister highlighted that the March 7 speech is not merely a speech but an epic poem crafted to liberate a nation. Quoting Bangabandhu, Hasan reiterated, "This struggle is a struggle for liberation, this struggle is a struggle for independence." He emphasized Bangabandhu's call for the nation to prepare for facing adversaries, transforming from an unarmed to an armed nation, leading up to the declaration of final independence on March 26.

Hasan pointed out that Bangabandhu's declaration for independence on March 7 left no room for accusations. He referenced a report from the Pakistani intelligence agency sent to Rawalpindi from Dhaka, acknowledging Bangabandhu's move towards independence: "The clever Sheikh Mujib has practically declared the independence of East Pakistan. But we had nothing to do but watch."

In essence, Hasan emphasized that those who question the significance of March 7 are undermining the sovereignty and independence of Bangladesh.
