Dhaka, Apr 08 (V7N) – At least 49 individuals have been arrested across Bangladesh in connection with attacks, vandalism, and looting of shops and business establishments during protests against the Israeli genocide in Gaza, according to an official statement released on Tuesday morning.

The information was provided by Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, who stated that Bangladesh Police took swift and decisive action following Monday’s violent incidents that erupted during pro-Palestine demonstrations in several cities, including Sylhet.

“These acts of violence are a blatant violation of public safety and the rule of law,” the statement read. “So far, at least 49 people have been taken into custody, and two formal cases have been filed, with more to follow as investigations continue.”

The police have launched a nationwide crackdown, conducting overnight raids and reviewing video footage from the protests to identify those involved in the destruction. Law enforcement agencies confirmed that operations will persist until all perpetrators are brought to justice.

Shafiqul Alam called on citizens to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation:

“We can ensure that those who want to destroy the peace and stability of our society will be held accountable.”

Meanwhile, Assistant Inspector General (Media and PR) at the Police Headquarters, Enamul Haque Sagar, confirmed to the media that cases have been filed against those arrested and further legal action is in progress.

The violence came amidst widespread public outrage over the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza, which have drawn global condemnation. While protests have been largely peaceful in many parts of the country, isolated incidents of vandalism and looting have raised concerns over law and order.
