Dhaka, Apr 11 (V7N) – Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Mainul Islam has been appointed as Bangladesh’s new ambassador to Poland, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday.
Mainul Islam, who was on post-retirement leave (PRL), will serve as ambassador for a two-year term, effective April 10, under a contractual agreement that suspends his PRL status and related benefits.
The appointment comes with conditions, including that Mainul Islam must sever all ties with any other professional, business, or institutional engagements involving the government, semi-government, or private sectors during his ambassadorship. Further terms and conditions will be outlined in the official contract.
Mainul Islam had a brief and significant tenure as IGP. He was appointed to the post on the night of August 6, just a day after the fall of the Awami League government following a widespread student-public uprising. However, he was replaced by retired police officer Baharul Alam on November 20.
Subsequently, the Ministry of Public Administration reassigned him to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 26, indicating plans to appoint him as an ambassador.
His new role is seen as part of the government's broader diplomatic reshuffle amid ongoing political changes and growing international engagement efforts.
