Dinajpur, Mar 16 (V7N)- Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to inaugurate a nationwide canal excavation program across 54 districts on Monday as part of a major water management and development initiative.
According to the Prime Minister’s schedule, he will inaugurate the program by digging the Sahapara Canal in Kaharol Upazila of Dinajpur District. In the first phase of the project, 1,200 kilometers of rivers and canals will be excavated within six months. The government plans to expand the program gradually to 20,000 kilometers over the next five years.
The Prime Minister will depart from Saidpur Airport at 10:15 am for Balrampur in Kaharol Upazila. At 11:30 am, he will officially launch the canal digging program by excavating the Sahapara Canal, while similar activities will begin simultaneously in the other 53 locations across the country.
Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister will distribute goats among needy and helpless families and later address a public gathering at the venue.
In the afternoon, at 3:30 pm, Tarique Rahman will visit the graves of his grandparents and aunts at Faridpur Cemetery. Later, at 5:00 pm, he will attend an Iftar and Doa Mahfil after a rally at Gor-e-Shahid Boro Maidan in the city.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to depart Dinajpur for Dhaka at 6:45 pm, concluding the day’s program.
