Dhaka, Apr 13 (V7N) – Dr. Asif Nazrul, the Legal Advisor, has raised concerns about the arrest of model Meghna Alam under the Special Powers Act. Speaking at a press briefing on contemporary issues at the Secretariat on Sunday, he stated that the process followed in Meghna's detention was not correct.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had detained Meghna Alam, which prompted discussions at the highest levels of government. According to Dr. Nazrul, while there are some allegations against her, the issue requires further examination and proper legal procedures.

Dr. Nazrul emphasized the need for political consensus to repeal the Special Powers Act, which allows for detention without trial in certain cases. He stressed that such laws should be reformed to prevent misuse and ensure fair legal practices.

The Legal Advisor also brought up an alleged plan to steal $2 billion from Bangladesh, which he said was ultimately executed with a $88 million theft through hacking. He claimed that the intention behind this was to damage Bangladesh's economy, and those involved in the crime were reportedly instructed to protect the interests of the previous government.

Dr. Nazrul further commented on the withdrawal of 7,184 political harassment cases, noting that this process has taken time. Additionally, he addressed criticism directed at the Ministry of Law regarding the granting of bail to accused individuals, stating that such decisions are made by the High Court, and the Ministry of Law has no influence over these rulings.

Dr. Nazrul’s comments reflect ongoing concerns about legal procedures and political issues, particularly around the Special Powers Act and the handling of politically sensitive cases.
