Dhaka, Apr 24 (V7N)- The Government of Bangladesh has declared three days of state mourning from Thursday, April 24 to Saturday, April 26, following the death of Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church and the Vatican City State.
A notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday night confirmed the decision, describing the Pope’s passing as a moment of profound sorrow for the global community.
As part of the mourning observance, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, educational institutions, and private buildings across the country, as well as at all Bangladesh missions abroad.
The statement also mentioned that special prayers will be held for the eternal peace of Pope Francis’ soul, recognizing his impactful leadership and humanitarian contributions during his tenure.
Pope Francis, born Giorgio Mario Bergoglio, passed away at the age of 88 at his Vatican residence, Casa Santa Marta, on Monday morning. He had served as the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church for more than a decade, leaving behind a legacy marked by reform, compassion, and advocacy for peace and justice.
The Pope’s funeral will be held on Saturday, April 26, in front of St. Peter’s Basilica, and will be attended by top religious and global dignitaries.
