Dhaka, Apr 29 (V7N)- Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has announced that the Election Commission is considering granting voting rights to Bangladeshi expatriates on a limited scale. He urged all political parties to share their views on the matter by May 15.

Speaking at a seminar titled “Voting System Development” for expatriates, the CEC emphasized that any system must take into account Bangladesh's socio-economic and political context, along with the educational background of voters.

To support the initiative, Dhaka University, BUET, and MIST submitted detailed reports to the commission outlining three possible voting methods for expatriates:

  • Postal Ballot
  • Online Voting
  • Proxy Voting

The reports also highlighted potential technical, legal, and logistical challenges for each method.

The seminar focused on designing a transparent, secure, and practical voting process for non-resident Bangladeshis, with discussions around system integrity, feasibility, and security protocols.
