Dhaka, Apr 29 (V7N)- Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has called on the police force to regain the trust of the people by refusing to carry out unlawful directives and by playing a stronger role in protecting human rights, ensuring justice, and maintaining electoral peace.

Speaking at the inauguration of Police Week 2025 at the Rajarbagh Police Lines, Dr. Yunus said the police have suffered from public resentment due to their association with the "illegal and unjust commands of the autocratic regime" of the past 15 years. He directly blamed the Awami League government for turning the police into a partisan force, stating that "many honest officers have paid the price" for that transformation.

Addressing the upcoming national elections, the Chief Adviser emphasized that the police must remain neutral and vigilant to prevent any attempts to destabilize the country by “defeated forces.”

He also focused on the importance of the police in combating violence against women, assuring that mechanisms, including accessible hotline services, would be strengthened so women from all backgrounds can seek help without hesitation.

Dr. Yunus reiterated his commitment to ensuring the police serve as a protector of rights and justice, encouraging officers to work actively for a rights-based, people-friendly image of the force.

During the ceremony, 62 police officers were awarded the Bangladesh Police Medal for their exemplary service from January 11, 2024, to February 28, 2025. Dr. Yunus personally handed over the medals and praised their dedication.

Police Week 2025 will be observed over three days, featuring discussions, parades, and recognition of service excellence.
