Dhaka, May 15 (V7N) – Professor Ali Riaz, Vice President of the National Consensus Commission (NCC), has said that the reconstruction of the state is not the task of any single individual or organization, but a fundamental right of the people.

He made the statement during a dialogue with members of the Bangladesh Socialist Party (BAS) held at the LD Hall of the National Parliament on Thursday.

Highlighting the need for political reform, Professor Riaz emphasized that political parties must align themselves with the aspirations of the people. He noted that the National Consensus Commission is working to develop a national charter that encapsulates public sentiment and can guide political parties in implementing shared national goals in the future.

“This initiative is, in essence, a way to reflect and give shape to the people’s collective vision,” he said. “The July mass uprising has captured not just the anger of the people, but also their expectations for justice, dignity, and democracy.”

Riaz further stated that the new political context in Bangladesh has emerged from a long-standing struggle, with the July uprising serving as a turning point in resisting authoritarianism. “People want to ensure that fascism does not rise again and again in this country,” he added.

Bazlur Rashid Firoz, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Socialist Party (BAS), echoed similar sentiments. He said the uprising has ushered in a renewed freedom of expression and stressed the importance of dialogue among political parties to resolve differences. He also called for internal reforms within political organizations, proposing the formation of a national platform or house that would serve as a collective space to fulfill the nation's aspirations for change.

The dialogue is part of a broader series of engagements led by the NCC to build political consensus in post-uprising Bangladesh.
