DHAKA, May 29 (V7N) – German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tröster has reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to assist Bangladesh in its shift toward low-carbon emissions and energy-efficient solutions, particularly in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) sector.

“Germany remains firmly committed to supporting Bangladesh in its transition to low-emission, energy-efficient cooling, demonstrating how international cooperation can drive impactful climate action,” Ambassador Tröster said during a workshop titled “Future of Green Cooling Technology of Bangladesh”, held in Dhaka recently.

The event was organized by the Department of Environment with support from German Development Cooperation (GIZ).

The ambassador highlighted the success of the Green Cooling Initiative (GCI) III project, implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Department of Environment. The project promoted energy-efficient technologies and aimed at reducing harmful emissions in Bangladesh’s rapidly growing RAC sector.

With GCI concluding, a new initiative—the Green Room Air-conditioning (GRACE) project—has been launched, signaling the next phase in bilateral cooperation for climate resilience.

According to the German embassy’s press release, the RAC sector consumes around 40% of electricity in urban areas and contributes to over 10% of greenhouse gas emissions in the Global South.

“The launch of the GRACE project marks a significant step forward in our joint journey towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient future,” the statement added.
