Dhaka, Jun 04 (V7N) – The Chief Advisor's Office has categorically denied reports circulating in several media outlets that the freedom fighter recognition of more than 100 leaders, including Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Acting President Syed Nazrul Islam, Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed, and former ministers Md. Mansur Ali and AHM Kamruzzaman, has been revoked.

In a statement posted on the verified Facebook page of the Chief Advisor's Press Wing on Wednesday (June 4), the government termed these reports "completely baseless, false, and misleading."

Quoting Farooq E Azam, Advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, the statement clarified:

“Those who were in the Mujibnagar Government were freedom fighters — both those who fought with arms and those who provided leadership. The officials and employees of that government are termed as 'collaborative freedom fighters' or 'associate freedom fighters' under the ordinance.”

The clarification further stated that diplomats, including those from Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, fall under the category of associate freedom fighters as per the National Freedom Fighters Council (JAMUKA) Ordinance.

“Being categorized as an associate freedom fighter does not in any way diminish their honor, contribution, or state privileges,” Farooq E Azam explained.

The advisor emphasized that the definition of freedom fighters from 1972 has been reinstated under the new ordinance. The definition had previously been amended in 2018 and 2022, but the latest directive restores the original classification without affecting anyone's entitlements or recognition.

The government reaffirmed that both freedom fighters and associate freedom fighters will continue to receive the same honors, respect, and benefits for their contributions to the Liberation War.
