Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud announced on Wednesday that efforts are in progress to rescue the hijacked Bangladeshi flag carrier MV Abdullah and its 23 crew members through a third party.

He stated that formal contact with the hijackers has not yet been established.

"We are attempting to communicate with the pirates through intermediaries," he informed reporters following his participation in a program at Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, Dhaka University.

"We have informed the relevant authorities regarding the necessary contacts in this matter," he added.

Previously, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury stated that no ransom demands had been received from the pirates responsible for hijacking the Bangladeshi ship MV Abdullah in the Indian Ocean.

"Our foremost priority is the safety and well-being of the 23 crew members. Our objective is to bring them back unharmed at any cost," he emphasized.

On Tuesday, the ship, transporting coal from Mozambique's Maputo port to Al Hamriyah Port in the UAE, came under attack around noon.

MV Abdullah is owned by SR Shipping Lines, a sister company of Chittagong-based Kabir Steel and Rerolling Mill (KSRM) Group.

According to KSRM's media advisor Mizanul Islam, all crew members are currently being held hostage by the pirates.
