Dhaka, July 2 (V7N) — Marking the anniversary of the July Uprising, Chief Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Shafiqul Alam, issued a scathing statement directed at the now-deposed Awami League, accusing the party of dishonoring the sacrifices made during the mass movement and warning that peace would evade them without an apology.
In a strongly worded post on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday, Shafiqul Alam wrote:
"We will wipe the ugly stain of your influence from the soil and wash it away with blood. You will never find peace until you honor the martyrs and the injured, until you say you are sorry.”
He accused Awami League leaders, members, and supporters of mocking the sacrifices of those who fell in the July Uprising, trivializing the people's struggle, and labeling 170 million Bangladeshis as "extremists" in hopes of regaining power through foreign intervention.
"We waited almost 10 months for the Awami League to express remorse and stand beside us in building an inclusive new Bangladesh. But instead, from last July until now, you have mocked the martyrs, ridiculed our resistance, and slandered the nation in your desperation," the post read.
Referring to the uprising, he said:
"July made us brave. July taught us to stand tall even in the face of adversity. July etched a rare courage into our DNA. We are no longer who we were."
Further, he wrote:
"July taught us to stand firm through the storm of bullets. July never lets us forget our martyrs — those you brutally killed, blinded, and spiritually shattered."
Alam concluded his post with a direct message to the Awami League:
"We will fight you — on our lands, rivers, and hills. We will fight you in the virtual world. You are enablers of genocide and looters of human rights. We will strip away your mask."
The message has gone viral, intensifying the political discourse around the anniversary of the July Uprising, which led to the fall of the Awami League-led government.
