Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud stated that the government is exerting all possible efforts to secure the release of the crew members of the Bangladeshi flagged cargo ship MV Abdullah, currently held hostage by pirates off the coast of Somalia. Speaking at a gathering commemorating late local Awami League leaders, Hasan emphasized the government's commitment to swiftly resolve the situation.

However, Hasan refrained from disclosing specific actions being taken, citing the sensitive nature of the issue. He stressed that efforts are underway to ensure the safe return of both the sailors and the ship without delay.

Recalling a similar incident involving a ship from the same company in 2010, Hasan highlighted the government's proactive approach in resolving such crises. Despite the challenges, he expressed confidence in achieving a positive outcome, drawing from past successful resolutions.

MV Abdullah, owned by SR Shipping of KSRM Group, was hijacked by Somali pirates while en route from Mozambique to the UAE. No ransom demands have been made by the pirates as of now.

Providing updates on the situation, Shakhawat Hossain, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers Association, mentioned that the ship is currently anchored off the Godob Jiraan coast in Somalia.

Addressing another matter concerning Myanmar border guards entering Bangladesh, Hasan assured that the government is handling the situation in line with previous instances, coordinating with Myanmar authorities for the safe return of the individuals.
