The down ramp of the FDC section of the elevated expressway in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka, has been inaugurated for traffic, announced Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader. Describing it as an Eid gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the city dwellers, Quader made the announcement at the ramp opening ceremony on Wednesday morning.

Minister Quader emphasized that the maximum speed limit for vehicles on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway is 60 kilometers per hour, urging drivers to adhere to this limit. He also reiterated that three-wheelers, motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians are prohibited from using the expressway for safety reasons.

Providing details about the expressway's expansion, Quader mentioned that the original length is 19.73 kilometers, which will extend to 46.73 kilometers, including ramps. Currently, the expressway's progress stands at 72.51 percent, with plans for a total of 31 ramps upon completion.

Regarding the timeline for the expressway's full inauguration, Minister Quader stated that it may not be possible this year but is expected to open early next year, emphasizing the ongoing pace of work.

The FDC section inauguration marks a significant milestone, allowing vehicles from Uttara to access Moghbazar, Hatirjheel, and Karwan Bazar areas. The expressway's route spans from Shahjalal International Airport's Kawla to Qutubkhali on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, passing through various key locations in the capital.

After six months of initial inauguration, the opening of the FDC section represents the beginning of the expressway's second phase, further enhancing connectivity and transportation infrastructure in Dhaka.
