In a recent development, the Somali pirates who seized control of the MV Abdullah have established contact with the vessel's owners, marking the first communication since the ship and its 23 crew members were captured eight days ago. Owned by SR Shipping, a subsidiary of the Kabir Group, the MV Abdullah's owners were contacted by the pirates through an intermediary, as disclosed by Kabir Group spokesperson Mizanul Islam. While no ransom demand has been made thus far, the pirates' initial contact appears to be aimed at establishing communication channels. Mizanul noted that potential ransom demands may arise during future discussions. The MV Abdullah, commandeered on March 12 while en route from Mozambique's Maputo port to the United Arab Emirates with a cargo of coal, has since been under the control of the pirates after reaching the coast of Somalia on March 14. All 23 sailors aboard the vessel during the hijacking are Bangladeshi nationals, and the ship's current location has been subject to change since the incident.
