Dhaka, Sept 14 (V7N) – Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has said that there is no alternative but to move forward with the “July Charter,” emphasizing that political consensus is the only path to building a new Bangladesh. Speaking on Sunday at the Foreign Service Academy during the second day of the third-round dialogue between political parties and the National Consensus Commission, Yunus underscored that the historic student–people uprising had created a unique opportunity for national rebirth that could only be realized through agreement and cooperation.

The Chief Adviser acknowledged that the journey toward consensus had been uncertain at first, but stressed that the Commission has now laid the foundation for a process that could serve as a model for the world. He urged political leaders to complete the final phase with unity, warning that lingering disputes could lead to instability. “Peace for the country is greater than individual grievances,” he said, adding that the upcoming election must be turned into a festival of democracy.

Reaffirming that parliamentary elections would be held in the first half of February, Yunus described the polls not only as an election but as the nation’s “true rebirth.” He likened the uprising to an “Aladdin’s lamp” that had unleashed a powerful force, urging the nation to use it to transform Bangladesh rather than settle for minor gains.

He further called for reforms to permanently block any return to authoritarian rule, stressing that unity was essential to achieve this. “There is no room for division. Without consensus, the process will collapse,” he said, appealing for all parties to uphold the Charter.

The session was chaired by Commission Vice President Professor Ali Riaz and conducted by Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant (National Consensus Commission) Monir Haydar. Among the speakers were Legal Adviser Asif Nazrul, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad, and NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain.
