Dhaka, Mar 23 (V7N) – A temporary fuel shortage has disrupted operations at many filling stations across the capital, causing significant inconvenience to commuters and transport operators.
Since Monday morning, visits to several fuel stations in the city revealed that most pumps were struggling with limited or no oil supply. Long queues of vehicles were seen waiting for fuel, while “No Oil” notices were displayed at multiple stations.
Drivers reported moving from one filling station to another in search of fuel, expressing frustration over the unexpected crisis. Many said the shortage has disrupted their daily activities and increased transportation difficulties.
Pump owners attributed the situation to a brief halt in supply from depots during the Eid al-Fitr holidays. According to them, fuel distribution remained suspended for two days, leading to the current crisis in the capital.
However, they expressed optimism that the situation is temporary and that normal supply would likely resume by Monday afternoon, easing pressure on filling stations.
Meanwhile, concerns have been raised over the broader fuel supply situation. On Sunday night, the Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners Association, through its official Facebook page, warned that ongoing insecurity and fuel shortages could potentially force petrol pumps across the country to shut down at any time.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the situation.
The disruption highlights the vulnerability of supply chains during extended holidays, particularly in a city heavily dependent on uninterrupted fuel availability.
