Dhaka, Mar 23 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Petroleum Dealers, Distributors, Agents and Petrol Pump Owners Association has issued a warning to petrol pump operators nationwide over increasing incidents of violence against filling station staff. The letter has also been sent to all district administrators and police superintendents.
The warning, signed by Syed Sajjadul Karim Kabul, noted that the ongoing conflict in Iran has disrupted fuel supply, leaving depots unable to meet unusual local demand.
“Crowds of motorcycles and general consumers at filling stations are continuously increasing,” the letter stated, adding that incidents of consumers and motorcyclists physically assaulting staff and vandalizing pumps have been reported across the country.
The association urged pump operators to keep their stations open with the support of local police while prioritizing the safety of employees. It emphasized that operators should not wait for external instructions but make immediate decisions to protect staff and prevent accidents.
The letter highlights growing tensions at fuel stations amid supply shortages and urges cooperation between petrol pump owners and law enforcement to maintain order.
