Dhaka, Sept 16 (V7N) – The interim government has extended the tenure of the National Consensus Commission by one month, pushing the deadline to October 15. The Cabinet Division issued a notification late Monday confirming the extension.

The commission was originally formed on February 12 to consider recommendations from six reform commissions and to hold discussions with political parties and stakeholders for building national consensus. Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus was appointed as its chairman, while Professor Ali Riaz, head of the Constitutional Reform Commission, was named vice-chairman.

Other members include Ayub Miah from the Public Administration Reform Commission, Safar Raj Hossain from the Police Reform Commission, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar from the Electoral Reform Commission, Justice Emdadul Haque from the Judicial Reform Commission, and Dr. Iftekharuzzaman from the Anti-Corruption Commission Reform Commission.

The commission began its work on February 15 with an initial six-month mandate, scheduled to end on August 15. On August 12, the government extended its tenure until September 15. Monday marked the end of that extension, prompting the government to extend the deadline once more.
