Dhaka, Oct 11 (V7N) – The Energy Advisor to the Interim Government, Faozul Kabir Khan, has attributed the ongoing fuel shortage to corruption and illegal gas connections facilitated by certain politicians and businessmen. He said that despite efforts by the government to resolve the crisis, widespread irregularities have made the situation more difficult.

Speaking at a seminar titled “Economy, Environment and Safety of LPG in Bangladesh” held at a hotel in the capital on Saturday (October 11), the advisor said, “A large number of illegal gas connections were given by some politicians. Unnecessary gas wells and pipelines have been constructed through corruption, depriving ordinary citizens of their due facilities.”

He further alleged that a section of politicians and businessmen are manipulating the market to create an artificial fuel crisis for personal gain.

Addressing the issue of domestic gas exploration, Faozul Kabir said that a new survey is being conducted for Bapex, but progress remains unsatisfactory, forcing the country to rely on imports.

Regarding the import and pricing of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), the advisor noted that while importing LPG is relatively easier, its high cost and limited private-sector capacity continue to pose challenges. He emphasized that the price of LPG should be kept below Tk 1,000 to ensure affordability for consumers.
