Dhaka, Mar 24 (V7N) – Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said that the government will continue to emphasize the study of history, as the pace of good governance depends on learning from past experiences.
He made the remarks on Tuesday morning (March 24) at the unveiling ceremony of a book by Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran, Chairman of Debate for Democracy, held at the CIRDAP auditorium in the capital.
The minister stressed the importance of critically analyzing past elections, stating that the 10th to 12th National Parliament elections should be examined “under a microscope” to identify the roots of authoritarianism. “Through such analysis, we can understand where the sources of fascism were hidden. This study will act like an anti-virus against fascism,” he said.
Addressing the issue of the caretaker government system, Zahir Uddin Swapan said the matter remains unresolved pending a court verdict. However, he noted that public sentiment favors a non-partisan caretaker government system, adding that the BNP would work towards re-establishing it through constitutional means.
The event was attended by academics, civil society members, and political figures, highlighting the role of intellectual discourse in shaping democratic governance.
